This week I read something in Exodus 14 that really stood out to me. A familiar story, but this week with a new perspective, and I wanted to share with you.
Have you ever felt like you stepped out in obedience and then looked around and wondered, why in the world did God bring me here? Did I make a mistake? I have. The past year especially has been a lot of stepping out in faith and the Lord says, "Yes, faith is good. But this is not My plan for you." Y'all, that's h-a-r-d.
Interesting that God's people felt the exact same way.
So, to set the stage for their panic attack, Moses is leading God's people out of slavery from Egypt into the promised land. He takes them through the wilderness and Pharaoh and his people are right on their heels.
(v. 10)When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
See what I mean? They are having a massive panic attack. They followed Moses, sent by the Lord Almighty. They trusted what God told them to do. They were obedient. But yet, they look around, their enemies on their heels, and they're like, "Wait! This is not what we signed up for!" (Uh, can you hear the 'Amen' resounding from my chair?!)
BUT.
A promise is coming!
13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Do you see the amazing stuff there? Yes, it was scary. Yes, it was dangerous! But were they ever unsafe? Did God look around at this point and say, "Welp. That plan was a bust. Wish I would've thought this out."
No. Praise be to our ONLY Plan-A God!
God's got this. The great I AM, the One who knit us together in our mother's womb, the One who holdes the entire universe in His hands is also involved in every detail of our being.
We need not to be afraid of what happens when we step out. Even if every fiber in our core looks around at the circumstances and we just can't see a way out. When it doesn't make sense or it's not what we would have "preferred."
THAT is when God gets the most glory. For He is the ONLY one who can do anything to save us.
(Oh, and by the way, in case you are not familiar with the story: God saves His people by parting the Red Sea and the Israelites walked across dry land to safety while the sea came down on their enemies destroying them. God can do anything in what seems like impossible circumstances!!)
I needed this today. Thanks, girl.
